Kerry Washington's husband Nnamdi Asomugha is expected to announce his retirement from the NFL on Friday.
The 11-year veteran, who was one of the NFL's most sought-after free agents less than two years ago, is reportedly done with football.
Asomugha's longtime team, the Oakland Raiders, announced on the team's website that the cornerback will officially announce his retirement Friday afternoon at a press conference at team headquarters.
"Asomugha will retire as a Raider following an 11-year NFL career that began when he was selected by the Silver and Black in the first round (31st overall) of the 2003 NFL Draft," the press release read. "The University of California product played eight seasons in Oakland, totaling 11 interceptions, earning three Pro Bowl selections (2008-10) and garnering first-team All-Pro honors twice (2008, 2010)."
The 32-year-old football player was last cut by the San Francisco 49ers on Nov. 4, USA Today reported. He appeared in only three games (one start) for the team after signing a one-year, $1.35 million contract that included another $1.65 million in incentives.
Asomugha spent his first eight NFL seasons with the Raiders, going to the Pro Bowl three straight years from 2008 to 2010. He was a first-round draft pick out of California in 2003 and finishes his career with 15 interceptions, 72 passes defended and two sacks.
No word on what Asomugha plans to do after football or if his wife will attend his retirement ceremony. He is expecting a new baby with the Scandal star. The couple wed on June 24 in a private ceremony.
